Boulder, Colorado Wedding Photography | Keenan and Phil

This weekend we had the honor of photographing Keenan and Phil’s gorgeous wedding at Colorado Mountain Ranch in Gold Hill.

I had been hoping their wedding would be full of little touches that show off their fun personalities, and I was not disappointed! They had the most fantastic cake I have ever seen!

I was totally entertained by the story of the cake–our very own Meg and Matt (Phil is Meg’s brother) drove the cake up from Denver! Totally an Ace of Cakes adventure!

Keenan had an awesome crew of bridesmaids to help her get ready. There was a lot of laugher in the girl’s getting ready room!

Phil and Keenan opted to see each other before the ceremony, which we love. It’s so nice to get the photos done early!

And if a fantastic wedding cake wasn’t enough, they also had an award winning blue grass band perform at the reception. There was some pretty awesome dancing (even the catering staff got in on the action)!

Congrats again, Keenan and Phil! Thanks again for letting us be a part of your fantastic day!

Monument, Colorado | Engagement Portraits | Andy and Lauren at Fox Run Park

We photographed Andy and Lauren’s engagement portraits last week at Fox Run Park in Monument. Lauren’s parents live nearby, so the park is well known to Lauren (which is good, because it usually takes me 800 times longer to drive around the park).

They were pretty sure they were not photogenic at all, but we were pretty sure that they were dirty liars. :P And it turns out we win–they ARE gorgeously photogenic! See for yourself…

A little bit of cinnamon photoshop action-ery on this next one:

We played around for a while. Andy and Lauren are totally professional twirlers now–we love it!

We were threatened with storm clouds, but it made for a dramatic background:

Lauren and Andy are just as sweet and photogenic as can be. We are so excited for their wedding! (And now that they are such practiced twirlers, we’ll definitely do some spinning on the wedding day!) :)

colorado springs event photography | cyndi’s horse show

Cyndi hired me to provide photojournalistic coverage at a horse show here in Colorado Springs this past weekend. She wanted me to photograph it as if it were a wedding–detail shots and getting ready for the show as well as the course itself. What a cool idea!

And then it was time to ride!

Aidan is a young horse and a newbie to horse shows, so he decided he wasn’t into it and didn’t end up going over the jump that I was set up to capture at the best angle. Here’s what it would have looked like:

Cyndi still loves him. :)

A hose-down seemed like a very nice idea on such a hot day (it was really hard not to run into the water myself).

Aidan’s mane was all fancy and braided, and after the show Cyndi cut out the braids while the hair was wet so that it wouldn’t be curly. Aidan won’t let her wet his face, so the hair between his ears totally looked like he was sporting a ridiculous horse perm!

Thanks again, Cyndi, for having me photograph the horse show! It was such a fun opportunity for me, and I will have the rest of the photos ready for you soon!

denver wedding photography | courtney and chris

We had a wonderful time photographing Courtney and Chris’s wedding on Saturday. It was a beautiful day (though just a tad on the hot side) and I will always remember the wedding for the beautiful things Chris said to Courtney during the toast (hands down the most touching groom’s toast I’ve heard at a wedding).

The makeup:

The gorgeous bride:

The handsome groom:

The ceremony was held at the Regis High School chapel, where Chris had gone to school.

The deacon stood in front of the bride and groom so they’d be faced toward their family and friends, which meant we had to do things a little differently with our camera angles!

My favorite portrait of the bride and groom:

The kid cuteness at the reception was totally off the hook. In fact, Chris had to announce in the middle of the reception his only two rules for the reception: everyone must dance, and no one else was allowed to ask them when they were going to start popping out babies. As if this sort of cuteness could be resisted for long!

The grown-ups were also pretty cute dancers:

Not to be left out of the toasts, this little dude (coincidentally a two year old named Will) got way into clinking glasses and taking a sip of juice out of his champagne flute:

We loved working with Courtney and Chris–it was a total pleasure to get to know them, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness together!

kara’s brilliant guest book idea | storyboards

I’m all about the product shares this week. :)

Along with our albums, I love storyboards. Probably because a storyboard is like a single album page that goes on your wall–pictures are just better when they’re together in a nice clean design.

Kara came up with my favorite use for a storyboard yet–using it instead of a guest book. She ordered a 20×24 mounted storyboard (all of our storyboards are mounted, so they are sturdy and will be able to hold up to being a guest book very well). We decided it should have lots of white space for lots of signatures. I mocked up a couple of options, and here was the winner:

Can’t you just see it full of signatures and hanging on the wall? I totally love this idea!

And while we’re on the topic of storyboards, here’s one that I mocked up for Aubree and Zack that I want to print for myself I love it that much. (Which is the weird thing about being a portrait photographer. If I were a painter, it would be cool to have my paintings in the house. But sadly it would be weird if I hung MY art at my house–I think our clients would be weirded out if they thought we had 15×30 inch storyboards of them in our hallway.) :)
