colorado springs engagement portraits | sarah and dan

We met Sarah and Dan last weekend at Garden of the Gods for their engagement photos. We loved Sarah and Dan’s entry in our contest this past winter and were so excited when they hired us to be their wedding photographers. They are such a cute couple!

This shot was actually Dan’s idea. Photography is one of his hobbies, and I was so excited when he suggested a silhouette of them climbing! And thanks to the magic of intense saturation boosting, the blah sky became something amazing!

I heard a rumor that Dan had to be convinced to bring some climbing gear as props, but I’m glad Sarah thought of it–it made for some cute photos! (And a fun challenge for us!)

When they’re not rock climbing, Sarah and Dan can be found just being adorable:

Thanks again for a great evening, Sarah and Dan! We can’t wait to work with you again at your wedding!

Boulder, Colorado Wedding Photography | Keenan and Phil

This weekend we had the honor of photographing Keenan and Phil’s gorgeous wedding at Colorado Mountain Ranch in Gold Hill.

I had been hoping their wedding would be full of little touches that show off their fun personalities, and I was not disappointed! They had the most fantastic cake I have ever seen!

I was totally entertained by the story of the cake–our very own Meg and Matt (Phil is Meg’s brother) drove the cake up from Denver! Totally an Ace of Cakes adventure!

Keenan had an awesome crew of bridesmaids to help her get ready. There was a lot of laugher in the girl’s getting ready room!

Phil and Keenan opted to see each other before the ceremony, which we love. It’s so nice to get the photos done early!

And if a fantastic wedding cake wasn’t enough, they also had an award winning blue grass band perform at the reception. There was some pretty awesome dancing (even the catering staff got in on the action)!

Congrats again, Keenan and Phil! Thanks again for letting us be a part of your fantastic day!

Colorado Springs Wedding: Marc and Julie

I shot our first wedding of 2008 on Sunday! Jump-starting our wedding photography season were Marc and Julie (whose engagement portraits sneak peek is here)!

They held their wedding at The Margarita at Pine Creek here in Colorado Springs:

It was a cloudy day and rained for a few minutes during the ceremony, but word on the street is that a little rain during the nuptials is good luck. Plus, all the cool kids get married in the rain (Nic and I had an Eeyore-like cloud of rain pass through during our wedding ceremony). :)

The Margarita did a wonderful job with the food (yum, yum) and the cake was as pretty as it was delicious:

Here’s one of my favorite candid moments of the day. “Cake smashing” was a big topic of conversation (everyone warning Marc not to do it) and here is their pinkie promise to one another to be very nice at the cutting of the cake:

Since the wedding was small (around 30 people), and the guests all very important to Marc and Julie, I made it a goal to try and catch a great candid portrait of everyone there. Some people were trickier to catch than others (they would look at me every time I got my lens pointed anywhere near their direction), but one of my favorites is this shot of Julie’s dad:

Julie and Marc wanted to spend a bare minimum of time on portraits with a real emphasis on candid photojournalistic style coverage, so we knocked out all of the formals very quickly. Here are the bride and groom:

The sun finally poked out at the very end of the wedding, and I love this shot of Julie’s brother and sister-in-law dancing:

Congratulations to Marc and Julie! It was an honor to be their wedding photographer and I wish them the best!

Manitou Springs Engagement Portraits - Bernadette and Haydn

I know Bernadette has been eagerly awaiting these–thank you for waiting, Bernadette!

We had to reschedule Bernadette and Haydn’s engagement portrait shoot last weekend due to weather, and my parents are visiting us this weekend (from our native Seattle), so thanks Bernadette for being patient on your sneak peeks! (And thanks to my mom and dad for letting us reschedule the shoot during their visit!)

We adore Bernadette and Haydn. They are oodles of fun, and just as nice as can be. I think that having a sense of humor is very helpful in marriage, and these two have that down:

(You know it’s a good laugh when there’s motion blur!)

I have been telling Bernadette for some time that just as soon as our business is big enough, I’m going to be knocking down her door begging her to be our studio manager. After yesterday’s shoot, though, I realized I also need to hire her as my personal wardrobe manager. This girl can dress. She brought three outfits complete with the perfect accessories. Check out the way her necklace brings her shirt and Haydn’s shirt together. (When they drove up, Nic couldn’t see them getting out of the car–all he could see were some killer red shoes and he said “I think that’s them–I see cute shoes.”)

Bernadette wanted to take some pictures with their two dogs to use as table number displays. She was hoping for something fun and crazy and silly, and we definitely covered all of the above. My favorite “totally out of control” shot is this one:

They are not at all competitive. Not at all. There was neither arm wrestling nor serious skeeball face offs at our shoot…never mind the photographic evidence.

Just in case you are wondering, these are not the prettiest eyes in the world. These, we were informed by Haydn, are the second prettiest eyes in the world. Who has the actual prettiest eyes in the world? Haydn.

(Nic and I laughed just as much at the shoot as Haydn and Bernadette!)

We’ll end with a playful saucy one.

I’m hoping to post a couple more this week. Thanks again, Bernadette and Haydn, for a wonderful shoot! We hope we captured how FUN you guys are and we can’t wait for your wedding–we know it will be amazing! You guys are the best!
